Flexible, multipurpose manufacturing capabilities

BASF manufactures  active ingredients and intermediates in Evionnaz (Switzerland), Saint-Vulbas (France), Ludwigshafen and Minden (Germany), sites which are regularly inspected by the FDA and local regulatory agencies.

Our reactors handle complex, hazardous chemical processes, allowing BASF to fulfill highly challenging customer project requirements.

Kilo labs (c-GMP-compliant)

Our Evionnaz kilo-lab can produce small quantities of APIs and intermediates up to the kilogram scale under cGMP.

Reactor size: 5 to 100 L vessels
Isolation equipment: centrifuges, rotavaps, tray dryers
Vessels: Glass, stainless steel
Operating temperatures: -50 °C to +150 °C
Operating pressure: 1 mbar to 6 bar

Pilot plants (c-GMP-compliant)

The pilot plant in Evionnaz is designed to handle complex, multi-stage chemical processes; we scale up and produce your APIs and intermediates under cGMP up to 1000 L. Robust safety systems are in place for hazardous and toxic feedstock.

Reactor size: 100 to 1000 L vessels
Isolation equipment: centrifuges, filter dryers, tray dryers
Vessels: Glass, stainless steel, Hastelloy
Operating temperatures: -100 °C to +250 °C
Operating pressure: 1 mbar to 6 bar

Commercial plants (cGMP-compliant)

BASF has a total of 11 multi-purpose production plants at our European sites in EvionnazSaint-Vulbas and Minden. Nine isolated reaction units allow for safe reactions with highly toxic substances (e.g. phosgene, phosphoryl chloride, cyanide).

Reactor size: 2000 to 8000 L vessels
Isolation equipment: centrifuges, filter dryers, tray dryers, mills
Vessels: Glass, stainless steel, Hastelloy
Operating temperatures: -100 °C to +250 °C
Operating pressure: 1 mbar to 12 bar

Non-cGMP plants

In addition to the cGMP-compliant plants, BASF operates a variety of sophisticated multi-purpose assets in Ludwigshafen for non-cGMP intermediates. Numerous processes can be performed in these plants, including enzymatic reactions and high-pressure hydrogenation up to 200 bar.
