Experts in complex technologies
By working with our team of experts, BASF customers benefit from an extensive range of skills and technologies. BASF’s global research and development network offers an unparalleled number of key value-adding technologies.
New: spray drying
Recently, BASF’s Custom Synthesis unit launched spray drying, a technology that can provide a simple solution to several challenges, such as poor bio-availability of otherwise valuable compounds. Thanks to a cooperation with GEA-Niro, our partners can now benefit from the full range of services, from development of new spray drying processes to pilot and commercial spray drying of neat and formulated APIs, from both aqueous and organic solutions.

Differentiating technologies
BASF’s differentiating technologies include phosgenation, cryogenic reactions, azide chemistry and high pressure catalytic hydrogenation. These technologies are performed in compliance at all scales - lab, pilot and commercial - in our cGMP facilities.
Phosgenation
Two cGMP phosgene generators on two European sites with segregated cells for safe handling
Catalytic hydrogenation
Total of 11 reactors with an operating pressure range of 1 to 12 bar (up to 200 bar non GMP)
Cryogenic reactions
2 low temperature units with Hastelloy reactors operating from -100 °C to 140 °C
Azide chemistry
2 reaction units, including one secured bunker equipped with video cameras (Evionnaz)
